There are many types of losses beside the death of a special person in your life, perhaps your job, illness, a miscarriage or the end of a relationship. I offer a supportive environment where you can grieve your loss, heal and move forward with your life.
Grieving persons are often diagnosed as depressed and given an antidepressant when actually they’re NOT depressed although the symptoms are similar:
- Changes in Eating Habits
- Changes in Sleep Patterns
- Difficulty Concentrating
- Loss of Energy
Sense of Numbness
- Emotional Highs & Lows
There are no stages to resolving a loss. Rather one goes through a process of moving through grief.
I have conducted many bereavement support groups for the past 20 years. Currently I conduct a 6-week ‘GOOD GRIEF’ Bereavement Support Group for those who have lost a loved one through death each Spring and Fall as a free community service at St. Bede’s Church in La Canada.
Are you feeling stressed,
irritable, and angry or just ‘down in the dumps’? Is your work or are your commitments to family making you
feel like you’re wound up too tight and that you’re about to explode or go over
the edge? Or do you find it hard
to accomplish anything and there is no joy in what you do, even in things that
excited you before.
You may be surprised to find that you’re not alone or
crazy. Many people struggle with
anxiety in keeping up with our fast paced culture and feeling anxious often
leads to feeling depressed.
Depression can also be caused by other factors such
as your family history, temperament, physical health, quality of your
relationships, life events, or a chemical imbalance.
You may:
- Feel Sad or Irritable
- Feel Guilty or Hopeless
- Have Difficulty Sleeping
- Have
thought of Death or Suicide
- Experience a Change in Weight
or Appetite
Now is a good time to regain that energy and cheerful
outlook in your life. Using a
Cognitive Behavioral approach, I can teach you how to change the way you think
about something which in turn changes how you feel, which in turn changes how
you act or behave. It doesn’t
happen all at once but over several sessions.
Before you consider medication, give ‘talk therapy’ a
try. Hypnosis, Guided Meditation
and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (known as CBT) have been proven to be more
effective than medication.
Medication doesn’t teach you to make life long changes in your
life. Talk therapy does!
